A1c: Check a blood test called a1c. This gives you a 3 month avg blood sugar. It does not require you to fast. A1c of 5.7-6.4 is considered pre dm if it happens twice.

Catch early: Not every doctor would agree about when to diagnose prediabetes. Fasting blood sugar should be under 100 and anything above that is not normal and diet changes to reduce sugar and carbs would be in order. You can also check a test call HgA1c that gives an average of your blood sugars for 3 months. I always talk to my patients even if the blood sugar is only a little high. Diet helps.
