Best urine/blood test for diabetes insipidus?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Vasopressin.: Diabetes insipidus is due to lack of urine concentrating ability. This is from insufficient ADH or antidiuretic hormone due to various causes. This is called central diabetes insipidus. This has high urine volume, low urine osmolality, and migh intake of fluids. Argenine vasopressin or avp given to these patients causes a >9% rise in urine osmolality. In normal patients, it is <9%.
