Insulin: In type one, the primary defect is the loss of natural production of insulin so they must manage their diet & take injected insulin to make up for the deficiency. Type 1 patients can also develop other issues like thyroid deficiency and may need additional meds. However, the type of meds used in type 2 are not part of the treatment.
