How do i help prevent bed sores in someone with a neurological disorder?

Keep pressure off: The best way to prevent bed sores is to keep the pressure off, either by frequent turning or technology such as air flotation mattresses. The pressure areas should be inspected daily to insure that skin breakdown is not occurring. If there is any sign of problems, special attention needs to be directed to the area of concern.

No pressure no sore: That sounds simple, i know that it is not. Avoidance of pressure sores requires constant vigilance on the part of caregivers for patients with spinal cord injuries or neurological disorders. A good rule of thumb is to avoid pressure on any one skin area for more than two hours. If contractures are a problem, they need to be addressed. Good luck!
