Doctor can evaluate: A person whose neck skin was previously fine, and now has a burning pain sensation, may have shingles . . . Which means he needs to get treatment started right away, to try to prevent chronic bad pains afterward. Other skin problems, and problems related to changes to nerves going to the skin, can cause similar symptoms. Of course, he could also just have a sunburn on the back of his neck.
