Possible nerve: Irritation. While it could be just muscle spasms or irritation, the fact that it burns leading up to the back of your head, it may be nerve irritation, often including the greater occipital, lesser and third occipital nerves. You will need a physical exam to be sure, but try neck range of motion exercises, gently, until you see a doc. Safe exercises can be found at www.Spine-health.Com.
