More than genetics: It's true that if 1 or both parents are overweight your chances of being overweight increase, but how much you weigh depends on more than your parents' weight. How much you eat, how much and what kinds of exercise you do, your age, medications you're taking, and some medical conditions will affect your weight as well. Some of these factors can be modified, like diet and exercise. Talk to your doc.

Other than genes our weight is affected by lifestyle, that unfortunately has become more and more sedentary in the electronic era. Keeping a healthy, even balance between intake and burnt calories becomes impossible with time limitations playing a significant role as well. Keeping a healthy weight today becomes an increasingly challenging task, critical otherwise in protecting individual health.

Not what you want to hear, but you are eating more than you need to. Cut your intake by half and exercise more. Joining a support group like weight watchers may help. Wish you good health!
