Congenital disorder: A fetus develops cephalocaudally, which is a fancy way of saying “from head to tail.” in caudal (“tail”) regression, the lower spine forms abnormally in the 3rd-7th week of development. Depending on severity, this can lead to malformed lower vertebrae, tail bone, pelvis, and spine. Minor cases may not have symptoms and severe cases may cause neurological problems in the lower part of the body.
