It depends: This depends on the amount of alcohol used, frequency of use, and period of time involved. Also important are other accompanying diseases the alcoholic might have, such as liver dysfunction. Frontal cortex atrophy is frequently seen, and impacts judgment and executive cognitive function. In long term alcohol abuse, one can see cerebellar atrophy also -- leading to uncoordinated movements.
