Chronic pancreatitis: Alcohol abuse can lead to chronic pancreatitis (inflammation of the pancreas). The pancreas produces insulin, which processes glucose (blood sugar). The ongoing damage to the pancreas that results from chronic pancreatitis eventually can lead to the inability to produce enough insulin, resulting in diabetes.

Yes: Alcohol Abuse can cause chronic pancreatitis, and the destruction of the beta cells in the pancreas decreases the ability to make insulin, thus causing diabetes. Additionally, alcohol abuse may cause obesity, which also causes diabetes.
