Old diabetes check: "glucose tolerance test" is still used sometimes in the diagnosis of diabetes. The patient fasts, drinks a sugar-laced beverage, and the blood glucose is drawn periodically over the next several hours; if it runs too high, diabetes is likely. Insulin levels may be drawn to see if it is deficient or if Insulin resistance is the problem. Today the 2 hour test is more common.
