Is there a pregnancy bias or penalty for women in the workplace?

It depends on job: As long as women are able to perform their jobs without significant changes and are carrying the same level of responsibility they had before, they will be treated respectfully during pregnancy. If the job is very physical or long hours, it may impact on c-workers and they may carry some bias or resentment.

Potential bias: I remember being very frustrated years ago when another female medical student slept 8 hours and I worked all night without a break during a surgery rotation because she was pregnant. I have had three children since becoming a physician. The female psychiatric residents I worked with found variable acceptance by both their male & female peers. Having a pregnant co-worker can bring up a number
