Bulging sac: This is a developmental malformation of the nervous system where the normal posterior structures do not form properly. Usually a bulging sac is seen in the back which contains the 'meningocele'. They can leak causing meningitis and are usually surgically fixed. The kids however are not otherwise symptomatic as apposed to the myelomeningocele patients. Spinal deformity present.
