Okay?: Yes it is probably okay if you are offering very soft and mushy table foods and of course giving him only things he has already been introduced to. Use caution with chunky foods at this age.

Your choice: Prior to WWII there were few baby foods, moms just mashed up table foods and made do. During WWII women went to work and the need for baby foods led to the industry, and many mom's never went back to doing home made. You can make any baby foods you want and they wont have as many preservatives in them. This can also reduce the time it takes to get the kid to the table and off "baby"foods.
