Wrong: Most melanomas don't have those traits. A dark mole which has changed in any way should be examined. Typical changes suggesting melanoma include lateral growth, growth in thickness, irregular margins, irregular pigmentation, leaving if pigment beyond the "mole." Not common at your age, but not unprecedented.
