Biopsy proven: First of all, biopsy is needed to confirm /establish the diagnosis of melanoma. If it is proven then an information regarding the depth of invasion will be very important. Then a wide surgical resection +/- lymph glands exploration will be needed as the treatment for melanoma once the diagnosis is proven by the biopsy.

Local anesthesia: Usually local anesthesia and a small incision. You may have a couple of stitches, but you may have a shave biopsy, where the lesion is shaved off and left to heal on its own. Depends on size and location.
