Heavy alcohol: Consumption has immediate & long-term negative effects on the brain. Heavy drinking accelerates brain shrinkage leading to cognitive decline. In contrast to alzheimer’s alcohol's effects on the brain may be reversible. Atrophy (brain shrinkage) decreases after abstinence from alcohol. Currently, no strong evidence suggests that alcohol use influences risk of developing ad, more research isneeded.
