rn at assisted living gives applicants tests for dementia. since misdiagnosis will hurt, should i get second opinion?

Yes: A good general rule is a second opinion from the appropriate physician has very little downside and can allay your concerns.

Rule out depression: Big problem if depression or other treatable diseases are missed, especially in the elderly nursing home resident. Dementia is just memory deficits. There are many possible causes the elucidation of treatable causes requires careful medical evaluation much beyond doing memory testing / screening.
