A member asked:

When a dementia is moved to a new facility, how soon should he/she have visitors? i heard it's sometimes good to wait a couple weeks or so.

I would check with: The individual facility. You have listed dementia as one of your conditions. Your are a living, breathing, unique person - not a disease state. Take care.

Really depends: As a psychologist that consults with geriatric patients and their families, dementia is often very specific to the individual in terms of managing transitions or changes in the environment. I would suggest trying brief contacts in the initial period of transition as they are trying hard to accommodate a whole new system. But i would recommend continuing to visit.

Dementia: It varies, but usually frequent brief visits are recommended initially.
