Retained POC: If an ultrasound detects retained products of conception (RPOC) it is probably a better idea to go through a "D&C" to remove same. The RPOC can cause bleeding with clot formation can cause pain when passing through the cervix which exposes the womb to vaginal bacteria. The RPOC could also cause infertility, with fragments blocking the tubes. A D&C is a minor procedure and increases your options.
