A member asked:

Why do doctors give people mucomyst (acetylcysteine) before heart catheterization?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Mucomyst (acetylcysteine): Mucomyst (acetylcysteine) was thought for a time to help reduces contrast-induced nephropathy. Recent studies, however, have suggested that it's role is negligible in preventing this complication of IV contrast procedures, so it is not recommended anymore.
