A member asked:

What does a neurologist do for stroke victims, as opposed to a family practitioner?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Neurologist/PCP: A neurologist has a higher degree of training in the nervous system and its problems. For an uncomplicated stroke, a good PCP might well achieve the same good results as a neurologist. The neurologist is more likely to pick up something or do something else that the PCP hasn't the training or experience to handle. When you see a specialist it is for the higher level of training in the problem area
