A member asked:

Is it possible for long bones to shrink before they ossify?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

No: Bones continue to form, breakdown and reform. It is a continuous process. Ossification occurs when the growth plates close. This happens at different ages and also depends on the sex. I can't think of a disease process that would cause a long bone to shrink before it ossifies.
