Muscle strain: Sometimes you can get a muscle strain in one of the muscles that attach to the shoulder blade and it can cause a burning type pain. Try alternating ice and heat on the area and gentle stretches.. Avoid heavy lifting. If it is not resolving or if you have any weakness in that arm see your doctor.

Could be pinched nrv: You may have a slightly inflamed, irritated, or pinched nerve twig innervating that particular muscle. You may also just have a shoulder blade muscle which for some reason has been overused, exerted, or otherwise fatigued. You may choose to rest, ice, and watch for a few days. If necessary a visit to your doctor or www.healthtap.com/drsaghafi and I can help you find a solution to the problem.

Neuralgia: A burning pain in the shoulder blade(scapula) is presumed to be due to nerve pain(neuralgia) due most likely to irritation or compression of the nerves supplying the area of the scapula. It may be due to a pinched nerve from sleeping in an awkward position. It's usually a temporary problem but can last for several weeks. If OTC NSAIDS don't help>> Rx for Gabapentin or Lyrica (pregabalin) will relieve the pain
