E-tube dysfunction: The crackling sound is the eustachion tube trying to equalize the pressure between the middle ear and the sinuses. Decongestants intermittent uses are helpful. Saline nasal washes can help liquify the mucous so it can drain easier.

Ear discharge: Ear pain and discharge especially when it is not clear most probably from infection, may need antibiotics, have it examined. Allergic symptoms could be treated with decongestant nasal spray, steroid nasal spray and antihistamines.
