Why is myopia so much more common than hypermetropia?

Natural selection: People with myopia can see well at near without glasses. People with significant hyperopia cannot see well at any distance without glasses. It would be reasonable to assume that seeing at near offers a selection advantage for reproduction over not being able to see at all.
