Why do tetanus vaccines hurt so much more than other vaccines?

Combined: Tetanus vaccines are never given alone - they are always combined with at least one other vaccine, diphtheria, and now often combined with pertussis as well. It is likely the combination vaccines that cause greater local reaction and thus the "pain" you experience with the vaccine. Make sure to move your arm around a lot after the vaccine. If you try to keep things too still, it'll hurt more!

As TD or Tdap may be: Some people get a local reaction due to any vaccine and can cause a swelling and pain. Tetanus vaccine is not given as tetanus alone. It is either given as TD combined with Diptheria or Tdap with Pertusses and Diptheria and that may increase the risk of reaction following the vaccine But the injection itself hurts the same as any other. And the pain with/without swelling do not last long
