Cul-De-Sac: Inflammatory fluid in the peritoneal cavity collects in the cul-de-sac between the uterus and rectum in women and between the posterior of the bladder and the rectum in men. It is the continuation of the peritoneal lining in this most dependent of areas that allows fluid to collect there.
