A 41-year-old member asked:

What can cause genital herpes without having any type of sexual contact?

Dr. David Kurss
Obstetrics and Gynecology 39 years experience
Any Direct Contact: Genital herpes is essentially spread by direct contact with an infectious area. It is very common and easy spread. Genital herpes can be spread even if you or your partner don't see any sores - orally or genitally. Valtrex (valacyclovir) has been shown to reduce, not eliminate the risk for asymptomatic transmission. Condoms can help but contact outside of the condom covered areas can result in infection.

What are my chances of having ovarian cysts pop?

1 doctor answer1 doctor weighed in
Dr. Michael Swor
Obstetrics and Gynecology 40 years experience
Unlikely: Most ovarian cysts resolve on their own or with treatment. Occasionally, they leak the cyst fluid within (ruptured cyst) or twist (ovarian torsion). When that happens there is usually some degree of pain.

A 32-year-old member asked:

Please point me to where are the ovaries and what exactly is ovarian cancer?

1 doctor answer2 doctors weighed in
Dr. Myron Arlen
Surgical Oncology 64 years experience
Ovaries are pelvic: The ovaries are glandular structures on both sides of and connected to the uterus by the fallopian tubes that transport eggs from the ovaries to the uterine structure. The surface of the glandular portion of the ovary is epithelial similar to the peritoneal surface of the abdominal cavity. For the most part ovarian cancer develops in the peritoneal surface of the ovary and rarely from the stroma.
