When is a gastrectomy done for gastric cancer?

For operable cases: Gastric cancer, when diagnosed early can be removed surgically by using a gastrectomy. But most cases are advanced beyond the stomach wall and are hence inoperable. Such cases are best managed with chemotherapy and or bypass surgery to relieve the obstructive symptoms.
