Sleeve vs bypass: A gastric sleeve removes ~80% of the stomach, transforming the stomach into a tube structure. There is no new gastrointestinal connection (anastamosis) created. A gastric bypass defunctionalizes ~95% of the stomach and involves 2 anastamoses. This just scratches the surface. There are differences in risk, perioperative complications, and outcomes. Talk to a bariatric surgeon for full details.
