A member asked:

What can you tell me about lead levels (in a 1-year-old) coming back positive by a finger prick as opposed to getting blood through the vein?

Fingerstick lead: levels are done as a screening. If they are normal, then there's no concern. However, they can be falsely elevated because of environmental lead outside of the body, so if the screening fingerstick level is high, your child will need a repeat venous sample. I only order venous samples for that reason.
