Can be used: While the jury is out in all areas of prebiotics and probiotics in infants, there have been some positive studies looking at diarrhea. It as also been found helpful for preemies in necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC). The only concern is using them in infants that may have immune problems or seriously ill with indwelling catheters. So, while not absolutely necessary, it will not hurt.
