A member asked:

If someone is suffering from alcohol poisoning, why is it a treatment option to use very dilute ethanol?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

It isn't: that I know of. If someone is coming out of alcohol poisoning and is beginning to experience alcohol withdrawal, there are some doctors who will treat it with a 5% alcohol solution intravenously. However, several studies and meta-analyses of studies have argued strongly against using alcohol to treat alcohol withdrawal. If poisoned with wood or rubbing alcohol, alcohol may be a useful treatment.
