A member asked:

What is leptin?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

A hormone: Hi. Leptin is a hormone made by adipose tissue (fat cells) that has the effect on the satiety center in the hypothalamus in the brain to tell you you're full, it's OK to stop eating. Obese people are leptin resistant, not leptin deficient. A leptin receptor agonist, metreleptin, was recently approved for treatment of people with little/no adipose tissue (generalized lipodystrophy).
