Product of fat cells: Leptin is a very important hormone that is produced by our fat cells (yes fat cells are active and considered an endocrine gland !) and play an important role in appetite regulation. It is believed that many obese people are "leptin resistance" as their appetite is not suppressed despite high leptin levels (leptin acts physiologically as an appetite suppressant).
