Possibly: They will need to determine WHY your platelet count is so low. In some cases giving platelets will not help much, in others it will be beneficial.

Depends on type.: A platelet count of 15 is a bleeding risk (are u sure it was not 50?). At that level, usually a platelet transfusion is given. Now w/o knowing what type of surgery u r to have (it may be to remove the spleen, which would raise ur counts), platelet counts can decrease during surgery, less so if it is "minor" surgery. An important thing ur doctor shd help figure out is why ur platelet count dropped.
