Breastfeeding ok.: Very little PTU (propylthiouracil) gets in the breastmilk and if doesn't have any apparent ill-effects on infants. Both PTU (propylthiouracil) & methimazole are "contraindicated" during pregnancy but the risks & benefits need to be considered. Methimazole should NOT be used in the first trimester but is a better choice than PTU (propylthiouracil) in the 2nd & 3rd. This is a complicated issue. Speak with both your OB & your pediatrician about this.
