Yes: Harming herself is not normal. Usually stepping back and ignoring the behavior helps. Talk to your Pediatrician. All the best.

The wonder year: This is a transitional time for a kid. They can head bang, hit themselves,bang pots, scream, all to gain your attention.If it works well they do it more. Try watching the kid out of your peripheral vision but not intervening. They are looking for attention not trying to hurt themselves.Kids don't understand you are watching that way at this age.When they realize they can't control you it fades.
