Many possiblities: If the pain is in the groin area it may indicate a labral tear. If more on the outside of the hip it may be from an inflamed bursa. Ballet dancers may have irritation of several muscles around the hip including the iliopsoas. If the pain has been present for more than 1 month and is not improving an orthopaedic surgeon should evaluate and look at xrays to determine the cause, possibly an MRI.
