Chest pain: Although this is probably due to reflux of acid in a GI tract disturbed by infection, chest pain should be a reason to see a doctor and have heart disease excluded as a diagnosis. Rare at your wife's age, but possible and always better safe than sorry. Have a great holiday season.

Never ignore chest: pain: virus or not- get checked at your local ER or UC clinic. It is better to be safe, than sorry. Get an EKG and CXR.

Need an examination: Mid-sternal chest pain in a 34 y/o female is unlikely to be caused by coronary artery disease. However this is not impossible particularly if a heavy smoker. There are other conditions that can cause chest pain but it would be unwise for me to list them here and for you to try and self diagnose your condition. You need to see a physician ASAP to see if anything serious is causing your pain.
