No: 5% of normal individuals can have (+)ANA at 1:160 dilution. Also, (+) ANA can also be (+) in: some viral diseases(EBV,HIV,HCV,Parovirus 19); bacterial endocarditis and syphilis; inflammatory bowel disease; interstitial pulmonary fibrosis; malignancies(leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma); multiple sclerosis; thyroid disease. A large number of medications can also cause (+) ANA.
