Not cancer: Cancer of the tongue is a result of smoking and drinking, presenting as an ulcerating lesion on the side of the tongue or posteriorly. It is not red, usually arising as leukoplaia. A red area on the tip of the tongue that is tender is most often and inflammed taste bud which should subside on its own.
