Period pain: When periods first start at age 11 or 12 years of age they are generally painless because ovulation has not yet been consistently present. By age 16 ovulatory periods are common and can produce cramping and pain prior to the flow starting which can be relieved by Ibuprofen. It that doesn't relieve your symptoms you need to see a MD for further assessment for conditions like Endometriosis.
