Blood clots and CVI.: Venous insufficiency does not put you at increased risk to develop DVT but DVT does put you at increased risk to develop chronic venous insufficiency. Venous insufficiency is a result of malfunctioning of venous valves in the superficial, deep or perforating system of veins. Malfunctioning venous vlaves does not cause clotting.
