Usually yes : Stripping membranes is a valid way to stimulate labor at term by digitally stretching the cervix & separating the amniotic membranes. This usually causes cramps or contractions. We usually avoid this if a patient is gbs+, there's a theoretic risk of fetal infection with gbs if introduced with stripping membranes.
