Weeks: High blood sugar causes fluid shifts in the body. The lens can become warped by these changes, thereby affecting vision. These effects are very variable in duration (days to weeks). Because diabetes can cause other problems with the eye (retinal bleeding and swelling), an eye exam would be warranted to ensure the health of the eyes.
