A member asked:

Almost 50%of my hair and beard are affected by areata. what type it falls into now?areata?totalis?universalis?what are the most effective treatment

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Alopecia: Alopecia areata is a skin condition that can result in severe loss of hair. We do not usually use the categories listed in your question but rather just refer to the % of hair loss. It is treated with steroids, topical or injected in the lesions or with topical immunotherapy that must be administered by a dermatologist. There is excellent patient information on this at UpToDate.com.
