If you have a lot: pain go see the dentist. They may want to get some x rays in addition to having a direct look. Dry socket or none if it hurts get it taken care of.

You Would Know: Dry sockets are extremely uncomfortable. A depression in the gums with no pain is likely normal healing. Of course if you are concerned have your DDS take a look.
