Sore throat/ear ache: The swelling could be tonsillar swelling from sore throat/allergies/abscess with swelling of surrounding tissue. Not far from the tonsils is the nasopahrynx nose) where an opening to the middle ear called the Eustachian tube,is located. In infection with tissue swelling fluid is trapped in the tube leading to infection in the ear as well. You may need antibiotics, f/u with doctor/urgent care
